What is it about straddle images?
Perhaps it is the juxtaposition of the victor and the victim
in a fight. One fighter towering over another -- dominance and
submission -- the powerful and the helpless. It is a complete
story in itself. One look at a straddle pic, and there is no
doubt, no ambiguity. . .
one fighter is in charge, the other is
in trouble.
Look through the annals of fighting sports. What image stands out
the most? One fighter standing, the other prone or supine beneath
them. Schoolgirl and schoolboy pins are, in effect, straddles. Is there
any more definitive and humbling way to display dominance over a foe? It is the ultimate image of victory.
In Apartment Wrestling, that power of the image expands exponentially due to the beauty
of the fighters involved. Imagine -- two beautiful combatants,
one on her knees half naked, a look of fear or pain or both on
her face. Standing over her, a conqueror. . .a master. . .an
opponent who has totally overwhelmed her foe.
What follows on the next few pages are images of control. . .of
dominance. . .of straddles. Some are original works, some are the
work of Master Photographer Theo Ehret, but all are showcases of
my favorite vision in female fighting -- the straddle.
